I received my Montessori Services catalog in the mail yesterday. As always, I am intrigued and slightly overwhelmed. So, with Sean taking ridiculously long naps lately and me being housebound, I found myself with lots of time to do some internet browsing. I was looking for some blogs of moms using the Montessori method and I was amazed with what I saw. The progression of the toddler activities make so much sense to me. These small children are developing terrific motor skills and self control. A lot of it is common sense, but it is the precise way that it is taught, and then letting the children choose the activity, that I find so appealing.
I requested How To Raise An Amazing Child the Montessori Way and Montessori Play And Learn: A Parent's Guide to Purposeful Play from Two to Six from the library. That should get me started. This site looks like it will be an excellent resource.
I keep getting the nagging feeling that Sean is ready and capable of more, but I feel it is far too early to start him with traditional school work. The Montessori activities for little ones seem perfect; activities that will prepare him for school, give him something fun and productive to do, and help him develop his independence.
