Father's Day/ Summer Solstice

Happy Father's Day and Welcome Summer!

Jim is down the cape with his brother and Dad. They left at the crack of dawn to get some fishing in. We're all meeting up later for dinner. James made him a motorcycle card this year.

To celebrate the first day of summer, we baked chocolate chip cupcakes with sunny yellow frosting. One of the nieces has severe food allergies and we used the Cherrybrook Kitchen cake mix. It is unbelievably good and you'd never know it is dairy, egg, and nut free.

The boys painted the "sun piƱata that wasn't". This was one of the "process, not the product" crafts. I know better, I've worked with paper mache before, but I didn't leave it enough time to dry, let alone for a second coat and two layers of paint. I'll plan better next year. I'd really like to finish it in time.

And, what I am looking forward to the most today:
Nothing says early summer more than strawberry rhubarb pie. I substituted cornstarch for the tapioca because tapioca gives me the heeby-jeebies.

Now, all that's missing is the sunshine!

ETA: The book! 'Cuz there's always a book.
