Martinmas

We made our Martinmas lanterns yesterday. I went for simple. I pre-cut strips of paper for them to paint and then wrapped them around mason jars once they were dry. We will light them this evening.

We had a lesson on primary colors and color mixing with the paints before we started.

Chris painted the table and his hair as well.

I raided Sean's action figures for St. Martin and the beggar and used a bit of fabric for the cloak torn in two.

Read the story of St. Martin here.
This afternoon we are baking horseshoe cookies.

James baked peanut butter cookies last night, so we'll have cookie overload. He has figured out a couple of recipes that we always have the ingredients on hand for (namely, brownies and peanut butter cookies) and he bakes them frequently.

we hollowed out a big root, and carved designs into the skin at the kids school for this today. The kids also make lamps- but they glue pieces of yellow, orange and red tissue paper to the jars, and tea lights go inside. Its very pretty. They do the same thing for Advent, only with blue and purple tissue paper instead.
