Michaelmas

We are waking up to Blackberry Cobbler.

Folklore in the British Isles suggests that Michaelmas day is the last day that blackberries can be picked. It is said that when St. Michael expelled Lucifer, the devil, from heaven, he fell from the skies and landed in a prickly blackberry bush. Satan cursed the fruit, scorched them with his fiery breath, and stamped and spat on them, so that they would be unfit for eating. A Traditional Irish proverb says:On Michaelmas Day the devil puts his foot on the blackberries.CatholicCulture.org

We'll be reading about the Archangels in:

We will see how the day plays out; we may make a dragon bread. And I may or may not take a picture, depending on the outcome.
:p I imagine that the boys will be happy to slay dragons with the wooden swords today, with a little luck the rain will hold off and they can do it outside.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and
snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
